This poster was commissioned by a Dungeons & Dragons player. They had an original character that they wanted illustrated as well as a poster with the character design included.

The design was based around the player's Asian heritage which he had included subtly in his character, Gearjaw's, design. The Rising Sun is the name of the adventuring party that Gearjaw is a member of, and also ties into the Japanese style of the poster. 

Other elements of the illustration and the flames and runes are ties to the character's story and choices in the game. The player is also a very involved note taker during game sessions and is known to do quick sketch style drawings in his notes. The illustration style is meant to reflect that.
